Comments due by July 15 on draft DOT Strategic Plan

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has released its draft strategic plan, which covers the years between 2010 to 2015. The plan focuses on transportation safety, maintaining a state of good repair, promoting investments that bring lasting benefits, fostering livable communities, and environmentally sustainable transportation policies. In addition to releasing the plan, DOT has launched a website to collect comments on the plan. Read more >

Safe Routes to School avoids a House vote to cut it – for now

In America Walks’ June e-nesletter, we alerted you to the possibility that the federal Safe Routes to School program could be targeted for a House floor vote to cut the program. Rep. Cantor (R-VA) had identified Safe Routes to School as one of five options that the public could vote on cutting through his YouCut initiative. Fortunately, Safe Routes to School will not be subject to a vote this week as one of the other YouCut options, selling off excess federal property, got the most votes. Read more >

Complete Streets Policy Unanimously Adopted in Midland, MI
