Oregon’s Crosswalk Safety Bill Passes

Oregon’s Crosswalk Safety Bill (SB 424) passed! Kudos to the Willamette Pedestrian Coalition. It will clarify the current law by defining when a pedestrian is “crossing the roadway” and therefore given the legal right-of-way to cross. Once any part of the pedestrian’s body — such as a wheelchair, cane or crutch — moves onto the roadway with the intent to proceed, the responsibility for a motorist to stop is triggered. More
Ped/Bike Infrastructure Projects Create Jobs

A national study finds that labor-intensive bike/ped projects create 46% more jobs per dollar invested than road-only projects. The study released this month by the University of Massachusetts – Amherst’s Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) finds that pedestrian infrastructure projects — bike lanes, sidewalks, trails, etc. — create on average nine jobs inside the state where the project is being conducted and three jobs out of state, per $1 million spent. New PSA Shows Tragic Consequences of Running a Red Light

No one ever thinks it will happen to their family. Unfortunately, every day innocent lives are lost because of red-light running. The National Coalition for Safer Roads has released a new PSA to help educate motorists about the dangers of red-light running and show people how to get involved in the national coalition to make our roads safer.
