Barb Alberson Sacramento, CA

Barb Alberson is a public health educator with more than 30 years of experience in public policy and program development. Currently, she is the Chief of the State and Local Injury Control Section in the California Department of Health Services. Over the past 16 years, Barb and her staff have implemented a broad range of programs to prevent unintentional injuries (e.g., to wear bike helmets or to feel safe as pedestrians) as well as a focus on the prevention of family violence. Barb also works closely with her Department’s physical activity colleagues on melding injury prevention with chronic disease prevention to promote safer, more walkable communities.

Barb often serves as faculty at major conferences and as a consultant at the state level (e.g., CalPed) and the national level (e.g., as a member of NHTSA and CDC’s Special Panel for the Prevention of Pediatric Pedestrian Injuries and on their steering committee to develop “National Strategies for Advancing Bicycle Safety.”)
