Sue Newberry
Sue Newberry is principal of Community Partners LLC. Her career in transportation began in 1989, when she successfully lobbied the Nevada legislature for changes in statutes related to bicycling. Her efforts resulted in the creation of the Nevada Bicycle Advisory Board and a Bicycle/Pedestrian Educator’s position, which she later filled. During her years in this position, Sue organized outreach efforts with local communities that resulted in ongoing programs to improve traffic safety, including the Safe Communities Coalition at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and at the Regional Transportation Commission in Northern Nevada.
Sue developed pedestrian and bicycle safety materials and programs for the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety that remain the cornerstone of their education and outreach programs ten years later. She was a catalyst for changes in Nevada statutes related to drivers proceeding with due care when pedestrians or bicyclists are present. She continues her efforts to encourage pedestrian and bicycle-friendly communities in her current public involvement and community design work.
