America Walks Hosts Georgia Workshop

On Tuesday, August 9th, State and Local Program Director Ian Thomas, in partnership with Toole Design’s Ian Lockwood, facilitated a training workshop in Atlanta, GA for about 30 project officers and evaluation specialists with the Centers for Disease Control’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity.  The goal of the workshop, titled “Community Design Strategies to Increase Physical Activity” was to build the capacity of CDC staff to manage and provide effective technical assistance to their grantees – mostly State Departments of Public Health.  The workshop included a presentation by Ian Lockwood on built environment designs that promote walking and biking, a walkable community audit of the suburban neighborhood adjacent to the CDC facility, and an interactive, small-group planning activity facilitated by America Walks.
