Learn more about Mayor Petrie in his recent interview.

Gordon Petrie is a retired trial judge and retired Idaho Army National Guard Colonel currently holding the office of mayor in Emmett, Idaho. Born and raised in Idaho, he graduated from Idaho State University in 1971, spending two years on active duty with the US Army. Leaving the Army in 1973, he entered the University of Idaho School of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctor in 1976. He has been married to the former Patrice Turner of Boise, Idaho, for 49 years as of January 25, 2018. They have 3 children and 6 grandchildren, all living in Emmett. Walking is important to Mayor Petrie because US body masses are increasing, leading to chronic conditions that make us less healthy as a nation. Mayor Petrie believes walking will help combat this problem and is actively involved in making his community more walkable and inviting for movement, thus enhancing his community’s health, economy and engagement. He recently won his third Mayor/School Walking Challenge in a row, competing against 41 other mayors in southern Idaho by walking 650 miles (over 1.4 million steps) during the month of October 2017. He does his best to set the example.
