May 28, 2015- Executive Director Publishes Article on Walking
Executive Director Scott Bricker published an article, “Putting Pedestrians First,” as part of a new Walking in America section of the European Magazine. The article discusses the rising demand for walkable neighborhoods in America and what needs to be done to provide them. The full article can be found here.

May 26, 2015- Congress Approves MAP-21 Extension
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a two month extension to the federal transportation bill, MAP-21. The Senate approved the stop-gap measure late Friday with the expectations that President Obama will sign the legislation before the May 31 deadline. Read more on the legislation and funding debate. 

May 22, 2015- America Walks Hosts Mayors’ Challenge for Safer People, Safer Streets Webinar
America Walks held the webinar, “Mayors’ Challenge for Safer People, Safer Streets” with representatives from the US Department of Transportation and mayors participating in the Safer People, Safer Streets Challenge.  This webinar is part of the “Take Action at the Local Level” webinar series that calls upon individuals to build community and institutional support for walkable design. View A Recording of the Webinar Here

May 13, 2015- America Walks Announces Recipients of 25 Walking College Fellowships
After a very competitive selection process, America Walks staff and Walking College Mentors have identified the 2015 recipients of Walking College Fellowships. America Walks is excited to officially begin the Walking College program on Monday June 8. Read More

May 13, 2015- America Walks Submits Recommendations to Secretary Foxx
America Walks and other organizations sent a letter to Transportation Secretary Foxx making recommendation on policy related to pedestrian and bicyclist safety. Read More

May 8, 2015- State & Local Program Director Address Pedestrian Safety in Home Town
Columbia – a mid-west college town of 117,000 – is suffering a spike in pedestrians being struck by cars.  Ian Thomas, America Walks State & Local Program Director, will lead a Mayor’s Task Force on Pedestrian Safety to address this growing concern, and chronicling the process. Read more.

May 1, 2015- Bipartisan Safe Streets Act Introduced
U.S. Representatives Doris Matsui (D-CA) and David Joyce (R-OH) announced their reintroduction of HR 2071, The Safe Streets Act, to ensure that streets and intersections are designed with adequate pedestrian safeguards in mind. Read More
