May 25, 2016- America Walks Announces Class of 2016 Walking College
America Walks is proud and excited to announce the class of the 2016 Walking College. The 25 fellows come from 19 different states and will work to expand their capacity as advocates over the course of the program. For more on the 2016 Walking College Fellows click here. 

May 23, 2016- America Walks to Host Training on Local Ballot Initiatives
America Walks and the Center for Transportation Excellence are excited to announce a new online webinar and training series. The series will arm advocates with the knowledge, training and tools to successfully initiate Local Ballot Initiatives to support projects and infrastructure related to supporting comprehensive active transportation networks including those that promote walkable communities.  The series will begin with an informational webinar on June 28th followed by a more in-depth and hands-on training on August 2nd . Register for the webinar here. 

May 20, 2016- America Walks Presents at Iowa’s Healthiest State Conference
America Walks was proud to present at Iowa’s Healthiest State Conference on May 19, 2016. The Healthiest State Initiative is a state initiative intended to inspire Iowans and their communities to improve their health and happiness and the theme of this year’s conference was Step It Up Iowa. America Walks shared resources and information on the befits of walking and creating walkable communities. Read more

May 12, 2016- America Walks Hosts Paths to Walkable Communities Webinar
On May 12, 2016 America Walks hosted a webinar to look at local examples of communities taking steps towards becoming more walkable. Participants heard from two recipients of the Every Body Walk! May 9, 2016- America Walks Hosts Twitter Chat with Project for Public Spaces
On May 9, 2016 America Walks hosted a Twitter Chat with representatives from Project for Public Spaces and the Pro Walk/Pro Bike/Pro Place conference. The chat covered a wide range of topics related to placemaking, walkability and the conference to be held in Vancouver in September 2016. To see the conversation that took place and learn more, click here. 

May 5, 2016- America Walks Hosts Webinar with National Association of Regional Councils
On May 5, 2016  America Walks and the National Association of Regional Councils hosted a webinar which examines how federal transportation funding is allocated through Regional Councils and how to access it for projects that promote walkable communities including complete streets, safety efforts and place-making. The webinar explores two unique perspectives as we hear from both a planner from a Regional Council and an advocate who has worked to use the resources available from their Regional Council. To watch the webinar and learn more, click here. 

May 3, 2016- America Walks Statement on DOT Proposed Rule Measuring Congestion
At America Walks, we work to make sure that all modes of transportation, including walking, rolling and biking, are included in federal transportation planning and measurement. We urge the Department of Transportation to change the recently proposed rule on how states and other metro areas will have to measure and address the so-called success of a road to better measure and address all modes of transportation. Read more about our position here.
