September 19, 2016- 2017 National Walking Summit Theme Announced!
America Walks and the Every Body Walk! Collaborative are excited to announce the theme of the 2017 National Walking Summit is “Vital and Vibrant Communities: The Power of Walkability.” The conference will explore how walking and walkability create engaged, thriving, and inclusive communities for all members. Walkability is at the cornerstone of creating neighborhoods that are vital and vibrant, allowing all members of a community to enjoy health, social and economic benefits in a variety of forms. To learn more and submit a proposal, click here.

September 12, 2016- Every Body Walk! Collaborative Launches Social Justice Toolkit
At the 2015 National Walking Summit, several of our keynote speakers and presenters put forth the call to action that the walking movement use walkability to undo decades of injustice perpetrated across the U.S. from policies, programs and attitudes that fuel social and economic divisions along lines of class, race, income and other differences. The Every Body Walk! Collaborative heeded this call with our new Social Justice Toolkit, with communication messages and other resources to help incorporate equity into the work of the walking movement. Explore the toolkit and provide valuable feedback here. 

September 9, 2016- America Walks Webinar on First Mile, Last Mile
America Walks hosted a webinar “First Mile, Last Mile: Connections to Transit” which explored the power that comes from combining the work of the walking movement with transit advocacy. Learn more and watch a recording here. 

September 8, 2016- America Walks to Host Webinar on Rural Communities
Different environments or types of communities offer different opportunities and challenges for promoting walking and walkability. One of the most common questions we get at America Walks is about resources available for walking in rural communities. Learn about some of the challenges that come with working in rural environments and a selection of resources that provide unique opportunities to promote walking and walkability in rural communities with our October 13th webinar “Walking and Walkability in Rural Communities.”

September 7, 2016- America Walks Statement on 2015 Traffic Fatalities
At America Walks, we work tirelessly every day with our advocates and partner organizations to make sure that every community member has access to safe, convenient and enjoyable places to walk and be physically active. It is our belief that even one life lost in a traffic crash is too many. This is why it was so disturbing to learn of the final data on 2015 traffic crashes released last week. Read More 

September 1, 2016- America Walks Hosts Pennsylvania Workshop
Five Cabinet-level officials with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania attended today’s America Walks Collaborative Workshop on Walkable Communities in Harrisburg, PA. State and Local Program Director Ian Thomas and Project for Public Spaces’ Gary Toth facilitated the workshop, whose goals included engaging State Department Secretaries in the benefits of walkable communities and the practicalities of inter-agency collaboration. Read more
