NHSTA Vehicle Safety Rating

Walking should be safe. Speak up for stronger vehicle safety standards!

Right now, America’s top traffic safety authority is debating whether new cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks need to have life-saving technology that detects pedestrians and applies the brakes before hitting someone. This technology, Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking (PAEB), isn't new. It’s been around for years and government vehicle safety programs across the globe already include PAEB. The United States has fallen behind in vehicle safety and the number of pedestrians killed on our streets has risen 77% since 2010.

We think that vehicle safety standards that save the lives of people outside cars shouldn’t be optional. We also expect the auto industry will push back against making this live-saving technology standard on all vehicles. We need your support to convince regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to take a meaningful step toward reducing the number of pedestrians killed and injured on our streets by finalizing this important rule without delay.
