Kate Kraft, Executive Director, Announces Retirement
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
It is with much gratitude and a bit of sadness that I want to let you know that I have decided to retire from my position as Executive Director of America Walks in 2020. I have spent the last three years working with and being inspired by our network and I believe I am leaving the organization and the walking movement at a time of great strength, more diverse and ready to tackle the issues facing us in the future.
I have had many roles at America Walks over the past 20 years- supporter, member of the advisory board, and now as an employee. It has been a great pleasure to watch how creating health promoting community design and walkable places has moved into the mainstream and gathered such a strong group of advocates and community change agents. I am so grateful to all of you for making that happen and developing a robust walking movement.
I don’t expect that this will be the last you will see of me. I look forward to working with America Walks the same way all of you do, as part of its army of community change agents. I know that walkable communities take the work of all of us and I am ready to roll up my sleeves as I consider new ways to support these efforts.
Transitions, although a little sad, are also a good time to reflect on the success we have accomplished and the work left to be done. I hope you will join me in supporting America Walks as we continue fight for safe, accessible, equitable, and enjoyable places to walk and move.
