Jeffrey Miller, President/CEO of the Alliance for Biking & Walking, looks forward to improving and increasing his organization’s collaboration with America Walks. The Alliance is the North American coalition dedicated to building the organization capacity of grassroots bicycle and pedestrian advocacy groups. Prior to heading up the Alliance in 2008, Jeff was the Executive Director of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine for nearly 12 years, giving him plenty of exposure to the challenges grassroots active transportation advocates tackle.
When Jeff biked across the U.S. in 1990, he saw first-hand how biking could help address many of our society’s challenges. Two years later he was awarded a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship to study and experience the bicycle infrastructure and policies in 15 countries including Japan, China, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and much of Europe. That 14-month around-the-world bike tour served as a significant part of his education in bicycle advocacy, policy, and infrastructure design.
A graduate of College of the Atlantic, he has a B.A. in Human Ecology and a Secondary Teaching Certificate. Jeff also serves on the boards of America Bikes and the Adventure Cycling Association. Jeff lives in Washington, DC and uses his bike year-round for transportation, touring, exploring, and competing in road races and triathlons.
