The federal government needs to fund safe and sustainable streets, not big roads

Every five years, Congress has an opportunity to rethink how we invest in America’s transportation future. The transportation bill recently released by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee misses that opportunity. Instead of giving communities more transportation choices, it increases highway spending, cuts transit funding, eliminates programs that improve safety and reconnect neighborhoods, and makes it even harder to build a transportation system that works for everyone.
