Women of the Walking Movement: Molly O’ Reilly
“I have tended to be persistent, which is one technique for overcoming that discounting,” says America Walks former Board Member, Molly O’ Reilly. Molly recounts that in the 1990’s women were almost non-existent in the transportation planning field, and that back then, you often had to overcome having your perspective discounted.
Molly is a founding member of America Walks and past president of the Idaho Walk Bike Alliance. While living in the Portland area, she was a founding member of Sensible Transportation Options for People in Portland, OR, whose mission was to stop a proposed freeway and advocate for light rail, bikes, smart growth and walkability. Her work helped pivot Portland in a whole new direction in terms of active transportation and people-first policies.
