A detailed sidewalk inventory of a community’s sidewalk network is a critical tool for meeting ADA requirements and creating more equitable communities. Given the lack of unified standards, practitioners may face challenges in conducting and using an inventory for equity and accessibility planning considerations. PBIC and America Walks’ upcoming webinar on July 26,2023 at 2pm ET will address the questions of “What is a sidewalk inventory,” “Why should you conduct an inventory,” as well as “how can you use an inventory and make the case to local leadership to fund these tools?”
The webinar aims to answer these questions in three main ways:
- Outline the importance of sidewalk inventories to communities;
- Identify the various methods of conducting a sidewalk inventory and assess the relative benefits and drawbacks of each;
- Provide practitioners with steps for determining the appropriate inventory method for their community (i.e. resources, political will)
Panelists include Andrew Dannenberg (University of Washington School of Public Health) and Aaron Cahen (Independent Consultant), who will share their work to prepare practical guidance for conducting and using sidewalk inventories. We will also be joined by Mark Hallenbeck (University of Washington) and Colin Alexander (City of Birmingham, AL), who will share their experiences collecting and using these inventories. At the end of the presentation, panelists will participate in a facilitated discussion to answer questions from attendees.
